Buildings, streets or areas of 27 out of 50 units of Dhaka city have been put under lockdown
The number of people infected by coronavirus are increasing every day in Dhaka and other areas.
As soon as any patient of Covid-19 is detected, the building, the street or the area they live in are immediately put under lockdown by police.
The number of infected people is the highest in the capital compared to other areas due to which more areas here are being put under lockdown every single-day.
Police said they are imposing lockdown on these buildings and areas under orders from the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).
Till now, coronavirus patients have been detected in 27 out of 50 units of Dhaka Metropolitan City.
Ramna unit’s areas under lockdown
Police have partially locked down the Regent Tower in Mogbazar as many residents of the 28 apartments of the building are service holders and have to go to work. However, the apartment where the patient was detected is under complete lockdown.
Ramna police station Officer-in Charge (OC) Kazi Mainul Islam said: “We are advising everyone to be careful since we have not been able to lockdown the building completely as many people live there.”
IEDCR provided another address in Baily road, however, police were unable to find the particular building.
Agrani Bank’s main branch in Motijheel under lockdown
After an employee of the main branch of Agrani Bank got infected by coronavirus, the branch has been put under lockdown. It will remain closed for 14 days.
The bank’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD) Shamsul Islam confirmed the matter.
Adabor’s lockdown areas
Adabor police have locked down street number 17 of the area after a coronavirus patient was detected in one of the buildings of the street.
Police have also limited movement across all the streets of the area and are conducting patrols. Anyone getting out of their house without proper reason is becoming subject to police scrutiny.
Adabor police station OC Kazi Sahiduzzaman said: “We are discouraging people not to get out of their homes.”
Areas in lockdown in Mohammadpur
Five separate buildings in Razia Sultana road, Tajmahal road, Krishi Market road, Babar road and Bosila Uttar More area of Mohammadpur have been put under lockdown. Even though initially the streets were completely locked down, only the buildings were locked down later.
Lockdown areas of Jatrabari unit
A building in Nobinagar street under Mirhazaribag area of Jatrabari has been put under lockdown after a private television’s camera person living there was infected with the virus.
Jatrabari police station OC Majharul Islam said: “We have locked down a building here and will remain like that unless there is change in order.”
Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area’s slum under lockdown
Police have locked down the Motahar slum in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area. It has been put under lockdown under orders from the IEDCR.
Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station OC Jane Alam Munshi said: “The slum has been closed down after a patient of coronavirus was detected here.”
Kalabagan Central road building under lockdown
A six-storied building in Central road of Kalabagan area has been put under lockdown.
Kalabagan police station OC Poritosh Chandra said: “We locked down the building after receiving a list from IEDCR. Till now, no other patient has been detected in this area.”
Areas lockdown in Shahbag
A building next to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) was put under lockdown after a person living there was infected with coronavirus. 13 days have passed after the building was lockdown and no one else was infected there.
Road 11 of Khilkhet Nikunja 2 under lockdown
Road number 11 of Nikunja 2 area in Khilket has been put under lockdown by police after a coronavirus patient living there died on April 7.
Khilkhet police station OC Moshiur Rahman said: “An area in Khilket has been put under lockdown and we have requested everyone to stay safe.”
Eight-storied building locked down in Hazaribag
A person living in the eight-storied building in West Dhanmondi Bakery street of Hazaribag area got infected with coronavirus. After which police locked down the whole building.
3 building in Lalbag under lockdown
Police have locked down two buildings in Lalbag street and one building in Borobat Mosque area of Lalbag.
Khaje Dewan Lane in Chawkbazar under lockdown
After a mosque committee vice president and another woman, living in Khaje Dewan Lane of Chawkbazar, were infected with coronavirus, at least 50 buildings in that area have been put under lockdown.
Chawkbazar police station OC Moudud Hawalder said: “The infected mosque committee member socialized with many others in the area, for which a few buildings beside his one and street number one and two have been locked down.”
Bangshal’s Rose Marinas under lockdown
Bangshal police station OC Shaheen Fakir said a building named Rose Marinas in Siddique Bazar of Bangshal has been put under lockdown.
“The building is basically a market but it has 40 apartments in the floors above it. A 56-year-old living in one of the apartments got infected with novel coronavirus for which the building was lockdown,” he added.
2 buildings locked down in Wari
Police have locked down two buildings in Bongram road and in Ranking Street road of Wari. No one can go inside or outside of these buildings.
2 buildings locked down in Paltan
Police have locked down two buildings in Culvert road of Old Paltan. One is 15-storied and other six-storied. Residents of those buildings have been restricted from going out.
Shahjahanpur’s Dipshikha road under lockdown
Police have locked down a four-storied building in Dipshikha road of North Shahjahanpur, after a coronavirus patient was detected there.
Shahjahanpur police station OC Md Shahidul Haque said: “The building was lockdown with order from IEDCR and also restricted movement on the Dipshikha road.”
2 buildings lockdown in Badda
Two coronavirus patients were detected in two buildings of North Badda area. Police have locked down two buildings in Thanbag road and Swadhinata Sarani. At first the two roads were lockdown but now it is just the buildings.
1 building in Sabujbag under lockdown
Six people of a building in Nandipara Zero street of Sabujbag were infected with coronavirus and admitted to Kuwait-Moitree Hospital, after which police locked down the building.
Sabujbag police station OC Md Mahbub Alam confirmed the matter.
1 building in Bhatara under lockdown
A five-storied building next to Apollo Hospital in Bashundhara area of Bhatara has been locked down by police. No one can enter the building from outside as a person, patient of coronavirus, living there is undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Areas locked down in Uttara
A street in Sector-14 of Uttara has been put under lockdown. Moreover, there was news that a man living in Dakshinkhan was infected, but he was not found in the given address.
Gulshan’s building under lockdown
Police have locked down a building in street number 15 of Gulshan-1, after coronavirus patient was detected from there.
Gulshan police station OC Kamruzzaman said: “Till now, we have locked down a building only as there were no instructions afterwards. We are creating awareness so that people do not come out of their house unnecessarily.”
Building locked down in Tejgaon’s Arjotpara
A building in Tejgaon’s Arjotpara has been put under lockdown after a coronavirus patient was detected there.
3 buildings in Pallabi under lockdown
Police have locked down building number 46,48 and 50 in road 1 of section 11B in Pallabi (Mirpur-11), after a coronavirus patient was detected in building 48.
2 buildings in Mirpur Model Thana under lockdown
Two buildings in Mirpur Model Thana area have been put under lockdown by police after coronavirus patients were detected there. One is located in Pirerbag and another in Shah Alibag.
Mirpur Model police station OC Mostafizur Rahman said: “As soon as patients were detected, the buildings were lockdown following orders from IEDCR.”
2 buildings in Kafrul under lockdown
Police have locked down building number 42 and 43 in road 1/1 in Section 13 of Kafrul. Currently, the streets are under police watch.
Area locked down in Darussalam
A residential area in North Tolarbag area of Darussalam has been put under lockdown.
Darussalam police station OC Tofael Ahmed said: “After two patients were detected here, the whole area was put under lockdown and has been like that since then.”
1 building locked down in Shah Ali
Police have locked down a six-storied building in road 11, block-C of Shah Ali unit.
Shah Ali police station OC Salauddin Mia said; “The building has a coronavirus positive patient for which it is under lockdown. We have also requested to limit everyone’s movement on the street.”
Four-storied building locked down in Gendaria
After a coronavirus patient was detected, police have locked down a four-storied building in Gurudas Lane of Gendaria.
Other areas lockdown in Old Dhaka
A part of Babubazar, part of Urdu road in Islampur, few buildings in Lakshmibazar and Swarighat have also put under lockdown.
As of Thursday, Bangladesh has recorded 21 deaths and 330 cases from Covid-19, a pandemic announced by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The fast spreading coronavirus, which was first reported in China’s Wuhan, has claimed above 88,600 lives and infected more than 1,521,900 people across the world till date, according to Worldometers.
As many as 332,291 people have recovered from Covid-19, a disease caused by a new strain of coronavirus, which has spread to 209 countries and territories across the world.
